When in Rome…

Sweaty Stats:  I took Thursday off to let my legs rest a bit.  I’m planning on some elliptical action this afternoon and a long run Saturday.  I gotta say, I usually try to avoid long runs on the weekends because I love waking up and being lazy all morning…but the past few weekends that I’ve done long runs, I’ve felt really good!  There’s something about getting it done first thing in the morning (as opposed to at the end of a long day) that really does it for a girl! I guess all these runners out and about early on weekends are on to something 🙂

Last night we had a movie date night.  Truth be told, my hubby was more excited about the movie than I was, but you can always count me in if there’s a night out in the books!  The verdict?  Eh…it was OK.  Nothing to write home about in my opinion.

Hangover 3

On the upside, I love going to these fancy movie theaters, sitting in the comfy recliners, and ordering food and drinks from the servers.  Yes!! The theater has servers that come to you, amazeballs, I know!

Usually whenever we go to the movies, we rarely buy any food inside the theater.  Why, you ask?  Well aside from the fact that it costs 182 dollars for a popcorn and soda (or something like that), I hate spending a bunch of money AND calories on food that is mediocre at best.  I’m a bit of a foodie snob and don’t like being disappointed.  This is also why I am so picky about restaurants and what to order…I NEVER order on a whim because I want to make sure it’s “worth it!”  Yeah, I’m a gem to be around.

Cinepolis Food

Yes, my feet are up in the recliner while I’m getting ready for the movie.  I had a beer and quesadilla…and relax everyone, we shared the onion rings.

On to the point of this post…These theaters are definitely the place to break the rules 🙂 Whenever we go to the Cinepolis, we ALWAYS get food and drinks.  Everything is just so good, mmm…And yes, I’m sure they have sensible salads, but who wants a salad when you can have a quesadilla or onion rings?!  Or both, hello!!

So whenever you go somewhere that a lil out of the ordinary, do you splurge?  Or keep it healthy and sensible?  What’s my take?  Hey, when in Rome…

I’m a Runner? How Did That Happen?!

Sweaty Stats: As promised, I got out there and ran 8 miles Wednesday evening with my buddy Katherine.  We’re both in full Rock and Roll training mode even though we  feel like we’re slowing each other down…but secretly love that we’re both slow pokes, so it works out perfectly.

I haven’t raced since the America’s Finest City Half Marathon 2 years ago!!  I don’t know why I stopped training and signing up, but I just did.  Weird, I know.

Before I get ahead of myself, let’s take a trip down memory lane…The Carlsbad Half Marathon was the very first race I’d ever signed up and trained for.  I don’t know what got into me, but one day I woke up and decided that I was going to be a runner.  I trained for about 8 months because when I started running I could barely do 2 miles without dying!  I read just about every blog and magazine article I could get my hands on to try and figure out what this whole running thing was all about.  And honestly, I was terrified…people poop their pants, what?!

Fortunately I enjoyed the prospect of taking on a challenge I never imagined would ever become a reality for me.  I grew up playing sports and stayed pretty active throughout adulthood, but never in a million years did I think I would ever become a “runner.”

The San Diego Rock and Roll  Half Marathon became one of my fav’s because my running buddy’s sister was recently diagnosed with Leukemia as an adult and the proceeds of this race go towards The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

We all showed our support and  wore “Cara’s Crew” shirts for the race!

So fast forward to now…I am training for the SD RnR Half again and it’s much harder!  I feel that 2 years ago I was able to breeze through the training with minimal pain and a much faster pace, but now I’m an achy slow poke, what gives?!

My husband turns 35 in August (I just turned 30 in January) and he’s running it with me as a milestone for himself…and has already stated that this will be his first and last time ever doing this!  As much as I’m struggling with the training this time around, I know that this is not my last race.  Does that make me a runner?  Or just crazy?

What struggles have you had in your journey as a runner, or just being active?
Does it deter you from moving forward, or give you more strength to keep on going?

Random Lil Nuggets

Sweaty Stats: I hit the elliptical Tuesday afternoon and finished up with some legs and abs work.  I wasn’t sore from my long run on Sunday, so it felt good to get back out there.  I’m gearing up for another run this afternoon with my running buddy and actually looking forward to it since I haven’t seen her in a couple of weeks.  Chatting and running may not be the best for form and breathing, but it sure does make the time and miles fly by!

Thank you so much for the bento love from yesterday’s post.  I love hearing from new readers, so keep the comments coming! 🙂

I thought I’d get this Hump- Wednesday going with some randomness about me.  I always like learning lil facts about the bloggers I follow…not that I’m a stalker or anything!  So I’m assuming you want to know about me too, right!?!

  1. I’m Really Competitive – I grew up playing sports and have a hard time giving up the need to win.  It’s sometimes endearing (or so I like to think), but it’s probably mostly annoying…mostly to my husband.

By the way, I totally kicked my husband’s booty this bowling night.

  2. I Hate Dollar Stores – Why?  I don’t kow, I just do…I love getting a great deals, I welcome the coupons, but I can’t stand the dollar-type stores…not even the dollar bins at Target!  target dollar bins
  3. I’m a Wannabe Yogi – I like the idea of going to yoga classes, I have multiple yoga mats and DVD’s and even Groupon’s I haven’t used (don’t tell my hubby), but I can’t seem to make it a regular part of my workout routine.  I’m lame, I know.Jillian Yoga Meltdown
  4. I was a Nanny in College – I nannied for a family in an upscale beach community here in San Diego and took care of 3 kids (one was a newborn!).  It was the best job ever and totally fell in love with those kids…it was also the best form of birth control ever.  There’s nothing like 3 kids on summer break to make you rethink having kids. nanny-mcpheesource
  5. I Secretly Want a Tattoo – This is definitely on my bucket list of things to do and I even know what I want, but I haven’t gotten up the nerve to do it!  I’m more scared of regretting it than the actual pain itself.  So we’ll see if it ever happens…maybe for my 60th birthday or something. Old Tattooed Lady
